Melissa has a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy and is a licensed professional counselor.  Passionate about spiritual community, healthy marriages, and intimacy with God, Melissa regularly facilitates small groups and teaches and speaks on these topics in order to help the Body of Christ grow relationally with God and each other.

Daniel Kiser

Daniel is a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist in the state of Tennessee. He has earned master degrees in Marital and Family Therapy and Biblical Studies from Lee University. Throughout his clinical experience, he has demonstrated clinical effectiveness working with adolescents and families through utilization of evidenced based approaches in his roles as a counselor, clinical supervisor, and behavioral health manager. He has worked with adolescents with severe suicidal behaviors, anxiety, depression, aggression, and high-risk behaviors in residential treatment. Addressed the relational distress within the parent-child relationship created by their child’s disruptive behavioral responses, helping parents through their despair, resentment, and disillusionment. He is invested in the integration of theology and psychology, believing that activation of human longings, desires, and vitality for life is based upon both disciplines. Aside from professional development, he also has experienced the profound impact of a transformative therapeutic relationship that provides accountability, exploration of underlying wounds and thoughts, and compassionate care. Counseling is oriented towards reclaiming, rediscovering, and restoring vital aspects of human development and he is eager to help others in their process as well.

About this workshop

The Advanced Healing Workshop is a four-day intensive for men and women ready to go deeper in their trauma recovery. Christ-centered and clinically grounded, it’s led by licensed trauma therapists and offers a safe, confidential space for experiential therapy, somatic processing, reflection, group work, spiritual insight, and practical tools. Participants experience meaningful growth within a supportive community, with separate workshops offered for men and women.

Prerequisite

This unique workshop is powerful and to help particpants be best prepared, there are a few prerequisites for attending. These ensure everyone starts from a shared foundation for deeper healing. If you haven’t attended a workshop at Bethesda before, an intake coordinator will assess your readiness.
To attend the Advanced Healing Workshop, participants must meet at least one of the following criteria:
Previously attended a Bethesda Workshop
Completed a similar level of therapy elsewhere
All participants must be 21 years or older.

Workshop Topics

Sessions are interactive and experiential, featuring impactful exercises, reflection, group sharing, and faith-based guidance. While there’s no individual counseling, participants receive strong support through small-group interaction.
During the Advanced Healing Workshop, you’ll address critical areas for deeper trauma recovery, including:

Understanding how trauma affects the body

Exploring the impact of trauma on relationships

Identifying and healing core wounds from traumatic experiences

Learning practical tools for trauma recovery and daily coping

We offer workshops for all your personal needs.

Lodging & Meals

Workshop lodging and meals are included in the registration fee.

  • Each participant is assigned a roommate to foster accountability and connection. Private rooms are not available.
  • Breakfast is served at the hotel; lunch and dinner are provided at the workshop facility.
  • Vegetarian and gluten-free meals are available with advance notice. Participants with other dietary needs should bring microwave-ready meals.
  • The hotel includes a small gym, available before breakfast or in the evenings. Outside facilities may not be used.
  • All rooms are non-smoking.
  • All workshops are held in Nashville, TN. To ensure the best experience, all participants, including local residents, stay at a nearby hotel arranged by our staff. If you need to arrive early or stay over after the program ends, you’ll be responsible for arranging your own meals and accommodations for those extra days.

Technology-Free Environment

As with all Bethesda Workshops, the Advanced Healing Workshop takes place in a fully technology-free environment, known as the “Bethesda Bubble.”
All electronic devices, including cell phones, laptops, tablets, and smartwatches, are turned in at check-in and returned after the workshop concludes—no contact with work or home during the event, including evenings.
If you cannot fully unplug during this time, we invite you to consider a future workshop when you're ready to step away.
An emergency contact number will be provided for family use only.

What to Bring

Pack comfortable clothing for four days, personal items, medications, and layers to adjust to room temperatures. Recommended items include:

  • A light jacket or sweater
  • Bible, journal, or devotional materials
  • Earplugs
  • A wristwatch (since phones aren’t allowed)

Weapons are not permitted at the workshop, hotel, or in vehicles.

In four days, participants gain insights and breakthroughs that would typically take months to achieve in traditional counseling. The combination of experiential therapy, group process, and spiritual reflection fosters meaningful growth within a supportive community. You’ll leave with renewed clarity, strengthened resilience, and practical tools to continue your recovery journey.

Schedule

The workshop runs from Wednesday afternoon through Saturday afternoon.

Days begin at 8:00 a.m. and end around 6:30 p.m., with the final session ending at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

Although the experience is intense, the schedule is thoughtfully structured to provide deep healing and rest space. We encourage participants to arrive well-rested and open-hearted.

Cost

The Advanced Healing Workshop fee is $3,900, which includes all lodging and meals.

Travel Information

Participants should arrive in Nashville by 11:15 a.m. Central Time on Tuesday. Check-in begins at 12:15 p.m. You must arrive no later than 12:45 p.m. No late arrivals will be admitted.

Transportation is provided from the airport to the hotel and workshop location. No rental car is needed.

Once registered, you’ll receive a Travel Arrangements Form to confirm your travel plans and needs.
