A Night to Remember

A couple of weeks ago, we gathered with members of the Bethesda Workshops alumni community for an evening centered on continued healing, recovery, and growth. It was a meaningful night of reconnecting, learning together, and being reminded that healing can lead us toward greater freedom, wisdom, connection, and purpose.

Dr. Todd Bowman invited us to consider the moments that shape our healing journeys. Some are inflection points, experiences that change the direction of our lives and relationships. Others may feel like implosion points, when accumulated pain, stress, or grief finally overwhelms the ways we have learned to cope. Yet even these difficult moments can become part of a redemptive process when they are met with honesty, support, healthy boundaries, and spiritual and therapeutic care.

Todd also introduced the idea of inversion points. In trauma and addiction, strengths such as perseverance, creativity, leadership, curiosity, or kindness can become distorted and begin working against us. Over time, those same qualities can be reclaimed and redirected toward healing. Perseverance can become faithfulness rather than white-knuckling. Curiosity can lead to self-awareness rather than obsessive checking. Leadership can become service rather than control.

Here are our three primary takeaways:
✨ Recovery is shaped by the stories we have lived and the wisdom we gain from them.
✨ Boundaries and recovery practices help create positive turning points.
✨ Character strengths can become inversion points that move us beyond recovery toward deeper flourishing.

We are deeply grateful for every person who joined us, and for the ongoing work God continues to do in the lives of all our alumni. It is a privilege to remain connected to this community and to witness the courage, growth, and hope that continue to unfold!
